Citric Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) derived naturally from citrus fruits. It exfoliates the skin by breaking down the "glue" that holds dead skin cells together, specifically by chelating calcium ions essential for cellular adhesion in the epidermis. This action loosens and removes the outer layer of dead skin cells, promoting skin renewal and smoother texture. Beyond exfoliation, Citric Acid supports collagen synthesis indirectly by regulating cytokines released from keratinocytes, contributing to improved skin elasticity and reduced signs of aging.
