Cosmetic roles
Points to consider
CoQ10 is generally safe and well-tolerated in topical skincare. It has low irritation potential, even for sensitive skin. Proper formulation ensures stability and efficacy.
Usage reference
CoQ10 is a lipid-soluble antioxidant naturally produced in mitochondria, essential for cellular energy (ATP) production. With age, CoQ10 levels decline, reducing cellular energy and antioxidant protection, leading to increased oxidative stress and skin aging. Topical CoQ10 replenishes skin levels, helping normalize energy production and protect against reactive oxygen species (ROS) induced damage. It inhibits matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), reducing collagen breakdown, and promotes collagen and elastin synthesis, thus improving skin firmness, elasticity, and reducing fine lines and wrinkles. CoQ10 also supports mitochondrial function, enhances skin repair, and reduces inflammation by decreasing cytokine production. Clinical studies have shown CoQ10 reduces wrinkle depth, improves skin smoothness, and is effective for both early and mature skin aging signs.
