Is flying to Seoul just for a cosmetic treatment actually worth it?
On Taiwan's PTT forum (the facelift board), someone asked what many travellers wonder: Korean clinic prices look far lower than at home, but once you add flights and a hotel, is it still a good deal if you only get one or two treatments, say a single lifting session? Or has social media inflated the "Korea is cheaper" idea?
The replies split roughly like this:
-
Many said it depends on what and how much you book: it only pays off if you bundle several treatments or pick ones with a big price gap; for Botox or a laser session, stay home.
-
Some called it "more experience than savings": do the maths and it is not much cheaper, so treat it as half a day during a trip.
-
Language came up as a hidden cost, though others said clinics around Gangnam have plenty of interpreters.
-
Several warned that social feeds are full of ads, so reviews are only a rough guide.
-
A few found fillers clearly cheaper, since they cost more in Taiwan; others replied that a carefully chosen local doctor does just as well.
Overall the thread leaned towards "fine as part of a trip, do the sums before a dedicated one".
Desk note: Factor in tax changes too. Korea's VAT refund for foreign tourists' cosmetic procedures ended after 2025, and a bill to extend it to the end of 2027 only reached a parliamentary subcommittee in late July 2026, so nothing is settled. These are medical procedures: talk through your goals and risks with a dermatologist before you go, and decide in advance who will handle follow-up once you are home.
Would you fly just for a treatment, or only slot one into a trip you were taking anyway?

Before booking, ask the clinic for a written quote that names the device or product, the number of shots or the amount (cc or units), and whether the consultation, numbing cream and aftercare are included. Online prices often show only the cheapest package. Keep the treatment record afterwards: if anything worries you back home, a local doctor will need those details to judge it.
