Shinsegae Centum City & Spa Land Busan: what to know before you go

Exterior of Shinsegae Centum City department storeView over the Centum City district, Busan

Shinsegae Centum City in Haeundae, Busan is the department store that made it into Guinness World Records as the largest department store on the planet, and tucked into level B1 is Spa Land, a big jjimjilbang-style bathhouse and sauna complex that draws its own crowd of visitors separate from the shopping floors above. For a K-beauty or shopping trip to Busan, it works as a rainy-day, one-stop plan: duty-free-adjacent cosmetics counters, fashion floors and a proper Korean spa under one roof.

Spa Land spreads across roughly 4,000 pyeong of B1 space with themed saunas (some with an Italian, Finnish or Roman-bath styling), a range of hot and cold pools, an outdoor foot-bath area, and communal jjimjilbang rooms with heated floors where people nap in the provided sauna clothes. Upstairs, the department store itself runs many floors of fashion, luxury, cosmetics and a food hall; the building is directly linked underground to Busan's subway. According to the official Spa Land page, adult admission is 26,000 KRW for a 4-hour stay, with 5,000 KRW added per extra hour, and hours run roughly 09:00-22:00 (last entry 21:00), extending to about 08:00-23:00 in winter (Dec 1-Mar 1) -- hours can shift around holidays, so check the current schedule before you go.

Tripadvisor reviewers say Spa Land is genuinely relaxing on a quiet weekday morning but gets packed on weekends, with every heated room full and almost nowhere to sit. Several visitors note that even with a ticket bought online, you still pull a number and wait to get in during busy hours, and the self-serve ramen corner can have its own long line. The advice repeated across reviews: go early on a weekday, or budget extra time if you're coming on a weekend afternoon.

Address: 부산광역시 해운대구 센텀남대로 35 (Centum-namdae-ro 35, Haeundae-gu, Busan). Nearest station: Centum City Station (Busan Metro Line 2) -- an underground passage connects the station directly to the store, about a 2-minute walk. Spa Land hours: about 09:00-22:00 (last entry 21:00), extended in winter; confirm before visiting since hours can change around Chuseok and other holidays.

Nearby: Lotte Department Store's Centum City branch sits right across the street and is also linked to the station by the same underground plaza, so it's easy to compare the two department stores in one trip.

Question for readers: if you only have half a day in Centum City, would you spend it at Spa Land, or on the shopping floors?
