Double eyelid surgery: is it really better to fly to Korea?
On Pantip, a Thai user asked about a line they'd heard more than once: if you're going to invest in eyelid surgery, save up and fly to Korea. They wanted a double eyelid but were torn, since doing it in Thailand would cost less, yet they worried the result wouldn't be as good.
What the replies said:
-
The most common answer: it depends on the surgeon, their technique for your particular eye shape, and your budget, not on the country.
-
Several people said Thai surgeons get natural-looking results too, with thin creases that fit current trends, as long as you choose the clinic carefully.
-
Others pointed to the hidden extras of going abroad: flights, accommodation and time off, on top of the procedure.
-
One reply warned that you'd still have to research reviews in Korea, and that people who get a result they're unhappy with abroad often end up having it corrected back home.
-
A few said that years ago they'd have agreed Korea was better, but that the gap has narrowed.
The thread leaned clearly towards "pick the doctor, not the country".
Desk note: eyelid surgery is a medical procedure. Whichever country you choose, a proper in-person consultation with a qualified surgeon, a clear plan for follow-up visits, and knowing who will handle complications once you're home matter more than where the clinic is. We don't recommend individual clinics.
If you've looked into cosmetic procedures abroad, what mattered most in your decision: cost, the surgeon, or aftercare?

One practical point for anyone who does choose Korea: the country has a government agency, the Korea Medical Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Agency (K-medi), that handles medical dispute mediation and arbitration and offers free consultation. Its site has English and Chinese pages and notes that hospitals can write K-medi arbitration into contracts with foreign patients. It's worth asking a clinic before booking how they'd handle a complaint and whether that's in your contract. K-medi (English)
