A "best-value dermatology procedures" list, and why readers were split
On Nate Pann, someone posted a summary of a dermatologist's YouTube video. Instead of pricey lifting devices, it named five relatively affordable options: a laser that makes spots crust over and fall off, flat-wart removal, Botox, "skin Botox" (very fine, shallow injections), and laser hair removal. The post also relayed the video's claim that for distinct spots this approach beats long courses of laser toning.
How the comments split:
-
The top comment agreed: a year of toning sessions changed nothing for them.
-
One person had squeezed flat warts for years thinking they were tiny pimples, and they spread.
-
Skin Botox drew both "stick with it, one or two sessions won't show much" and "it really hurts."
-
On laser hair removal, one person found the doctor's skill mattered more than the machine's brand name.
-
A comment about going in for Botox only and being pushed toward an expensive package got plenty of agreement.
-
Meanwhile, a good number doubted the post itself, with replies like "that concludes today's clinic ad" and "procedure promo."
Readers were roughly split between "useful info" and "sounds like an ad."
Desk note: Flat warts are a type of wart. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) explains that warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), and that tiny tears in the skin, such as those from shaving, can let the virus in. Don't squeeze or pick bumps that look like tiny pimples; get them checked. Which procedure suits you should be decided in a face-to-face consultation that looks at your skin, not from an online summary.
What do you do when a consultation keeps adding procedures?

If you're curious about prices, check public data before clinic ads. From September 3 this year, Korea's health ministry and the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA) published non-covered fees from about 74,000 medical institutions, clinics included, across 753 items. You can search them by facility on the HIRA website or the "건강e음" app. The procedure you want may not be on the list, so asking for the total and any add-on costs in writing at the consultation also helps.
