Ewha Womans University Shopping Street: what's left, and how to walk it
The shopping street outside Ewha Womans University grew up around one of Seoul's best-known women's universities, and for decades it's been where students — and, increasingly, visitors — go for cheap, trend-driven clothes, K-beauty and a dense run of hair salons. The whole district sits along the road running from Exits 2 and 3 of Ewha Womans University Station, with smaller alleys branching off to either side.
What's there: guides describe stalls and small stores selling inexpensive, fast-turnover clothing, shoes, bags, accessories and cosmetics, priced for a student budget rather than tourist mark-ups. Nearly every major Korean cosmetics brand has a presence here at some point, and the concentration of hair salons is specifically called out — a legacy of the university crowd wanting a cut or color before an event. elCUBE, a department-store-style building in the area, houses budget label STAR101 and a LINE FRIENDS STORE for character goods. Most independent shops run roughly 11am to 9pm, though the larger names keep their own hours.
What visitors say: recent write-ups are consistent that the street isn't as packed as it was in its peak years, with some independent shops having closed or turned over, but it's still described as worth a stop for anyone hunting deals or a specific K-beauty item at a lower price than Myeongdong. A repeated tip for transit apps: search "Ewha Women's Univ." rather than the full English name, since some apps don't match on the longer version. The area is also flagged as walkable in one go with nearby Sinchon, another student district a couple of subway stops away.
