In your 60s and want a skin analysis and facial in Seoul, not procedures?

A traveller in their 60s posted on the Tripadvisor Seoul forum. They'd be in Seoul for a few days and felt overwhelmed: most clinics they found seemed built around fairly invasive procedures. What they wanted was a skin analysis plus a facial and product suggestions to match. They were staying near Namdaemun, close to Myeongdong.

What the replies said

  • If the goal is product and routine advice, staff at Olive Young stores can help. One reply said the Seongsu branch had offered a more detailed free analysis, though they weren't sure it was still running.

  • Free analyses often lead into selling treatments or products, so if you want someone who will actually listen, a paid analysis may be the better deal.

  • One sceptic trusts reviews more: buy a product and use it for a month before judging.

  • A few replies read like adverts for agencies or a clinic in another country, and were best taken with caution.

  • Later, travellers with darker or acne-prone, pigment-prone skin added their own questions about peels, with almost no answers.

Desk note A machine skin analysis turns photos into scores; it is not a diagnosis. Any spot that is new, or changing in shape or colour, belongs with a dermatologist, not a facial room. If you only want gentle care, say "facial only, no procedures" when you book and the consultation gets much shorter.

Have you had a skin analysis done? Did it actually help?

    1. Even for a gentle facial, if the place is a medical clinic, check the price first. Under Article 45 of Korea's Medical Service Act, medical institutions must notify patients of fees for non-insured care and cannot charge more than they notified. Asking by message before the visit for the analysis fee, the facial fee and any possible add-ons makes it easy to compare if the plan grows on the day. KLRI: Medical Service Act, Art. 45
