A Korean-style brunch in Seoul, not eggs Benedict: where do you go?

On the Tripadvisor Seoul forum, a visitor asked for brunch cafés around Itaewon, but not the Western kind. Everything they found online was omelettes, toast and eggs Benedict. What they wanted was a light Korean meal that still goes with a coffee.

What the replies said

  • The first two answers simply named places: a gimbap spot and a plant-based restaurant.

  • A Korean reply made a fair point first: brunch culture itself came from the West, so "Korean brunch" needs defining. Once the poster explained, the same person suggested a traditional-style snack café.

  • Their picks: a chewy twisted doughnut made with glutinous rice flour, a doughnut filled with sweet red bean and seeds, and to drink, sikhye (a sweet rice drink) or misutgaru (a multigrain shake). A Korean-style corn dog and milk soft-serve were on the list too.

  • Someone else pointed out there is also a well-known pancake house in Itaewon, for anyone who does want pancakes after all.

The thread leaned towards "look for Korean snack and dessert cafés rather than brunch cafés".

Desk note If the goal is a Korean-flavoured late breakfast, search by what you want to eat rather than the word "brunch": gimbap, rice-cake cafés or traditional dessert cafés tend to open by late morning and pair easily with coffee. Many cafés list drinks and snacks separately, so ordering a few pieces to share works well.

What do you order for a light Korean breakfast with coffee?
