Basic Routine for Dehydrated Oily Skin: Oily on the Surface, Tight Underneath
My T-zone gets shiny by the afternoon, but my cheeks feel tight after washing my face. If I apply cream, I feel like I’ll get even shinier, but if I don’t, my skin feels tight. This is dehydrated oily skin, commonly called “dehydrated oily skin.”
Dehydrated oily skin isn’t “oily”—it’s “lacking water”
It’s a condition where you have enough sebum but not enough moisture. So if you wash your face harshly to reduce oil or skip moisturizing, the tightness underneath can easily get worse. Rather than getting rid of sebum, the goal is to replenish moisture and finish lightly.
Basic routine for dehydrated oily skin
- Cleanse gently and briefly. Use lukewarm water; twice a day is enough.
- Apply a hydrating serum right after cleansing. Apply generously all over your face while your skin is still damp.
- Toner or essence is optional. Add another layer if your skin still feels tight; otherwise, you can skip it.
- Keep the finish light. Apply a thin layer of gel cream or a lightweight lotion. Use just a little on your shiny T-zone.
- Apply sunscreen in the morning. Especially for dehydrated oily skin, choose one that applies lightly.
Be careful with these
- Washing your face several times a day because it looks shiny
- Wiping away oil with a toner that contains a lot of alcohol
- Skipping moisturizer altogether
This may make your skin feel matte for a little while, but it can get even shinier in the afternoon while feeling tighter underneath.
