Jeju Dongmun Market: the day market and the night market are two different trips

Dongmun Market in Jeju City is the island's largest and oldest permanent traditional market, and it genuinely runs as two different places depending on the hour. By day it's a working local market; after dark, especially around Gate 8, it turns into a night market of food trucks and stalls. For food and shopping in one stop, close to the airport, it's an easy one to build a plan around.

During the day you'll find fresh seafood -- including relatively cheap raw ttaesaeu (spotted shrimp) and mackerel hoe -- plus produce, Jeju fruit and banchan side-dish stalls. After dark, Gate 8 fills with food trucks and stalls selling chicken skewers, Jeju black pork, small octopus (gamun-eo) and more, with some booths adding music and small performances to draw people in. One stall that comes up often in write-ups, "Cheongnyeon Minamdeul," is known for lobster, rice served in a crab shell, and black-pork kimchi rolls.

Reviews and travel guides describe the day market as a good window into local life and often call it the cheapest place in Jeju to eat raw fish. The night market gets described as lively and crowded, with the recurring tip to graze small portions across several stalls rather than filling up at one. Some also note it's worth carrying cash, since not every stall takes cards.

Address: 제주 제주시 동문로2길 10 (with another entrance via 제주 제주시 관덕로14길 20). The day market runs year-round, roughly 07:00-21:00 (varies by stall). The night market runs summer (May-Oct) 19:00-24:00 and winter (Nov-Apr) 18:00-24:00, closing early if food runs out; Gate 8 is the entrance most visitors use.

Nearby: Jeju International Airport is a short distance away, making this an easy stop right before or after a flight.
