Is Qoo10 safe? Worried about fakes, Japanese users say: stick to official shops

In March 2025, a "How is Qoo10?" thread went up on Girls Channel, a large Japanese women's forum. The poster wanted a pair of shoes and was unsure about signing up. It drew over 90 comments.

What the replies said

  • Some aim for the "Mega Wari" sale, when prices drop a lot
  • Others find the influencer promotion around Mega Wari so intense that it puts them off
  • One commenter bought a well-known brand's cleansing oil and got a fake, and swore off the site
  • Many pushed back: fakes happen when you don't choose the shop, or buy outside official stores
  • Amazon also has unofficial sellers, so it is not a Qoo10-only problem
  • A pragmatic view: Qoo10 is for buying K-beauty cheaply from brands' official shops; anything else is at your own risk, and clothes are worth what you pay

The thread split between the wary and the "official shops only" camp, and the latter got more agreement.

Desk note The fake worry is not baseless. In 2022, Rohto Pharmaceutical warned that counterfeits closely resembling its Melano CC serum were being sold on online shopping malls and flea-market sites, and said they differ in ingredients and quality. It recommends using its official retailer search or buying from trusted sellers.

When you buy cosmetics online, what do you always check to avoid fakes?
