Hongdae's photo booth street: how to work a strip of Life4cuts, Photoism and the rest
Hongdae stopped being just a shopping-and-clubbing neighbourhood a while ago. Around the alleys near Exit 9 of Hongik University Station, the last couple of years have packed in a dense run of self-photo studios — Life4cuts, Photoism, Photogray, The Film and more, sometimes several branches of the same chain on one block. This isn't unique to Hongdae, but trade coverage repeatedly names it as one of Seoul's densest clusters for this kind of shop.
How it works: pick props, find an empty booth, choose a frame style, confirm whether you want the QR/digital file option (this has to be selected before you shoot or pay), pay by card or cash, take four photos, collect the printed strip, and scan the QR code right away to save the digital file. Basic pricing runs roughly 4,000 to 10,000 won per session and the whole thing takes about 6 minutes. Life Four Cuts alone is reported to run more than 1,000 stores across 27 countries, with around 2.3 million monthly visitors and over 1.1 million Instagram posts tagged to the brand. Rotating seasonal and celebrity-collaboration frames are part of why people keep coming back.
What visitors say: coverage repeatedly mentions long queues at Hongdae locations, especially late on weekend nights — one piece described roughly twenty people in their early twenties lined up outside a storefront at midnight on a Saturday. Visitors from Japan, China and Southeast Asia are described as treating a four-cut strip as a near-mandatory item on a Seoul itinerary. A practical tip that comes up often: digital download links typically expire within 24 hours to 3 days, so scan and save on the spot rather than waiting until you're back at the hotel; weekday afternoons mean much shorter lines.
Practical info:
- Location: the alleys around Exit 9 of Hongik University Station (Line 2 / Gyeongui-Jungang / AREX) — multiple brands cluster here, so there's no single address
- Hours: varies by store; most run unstaffed late into the night, check the posted hours at each location
- Price: roughly 4,000–10,000 won per session depending on frame style, as of September 2026
- Best time: weekday afternoons for shorter lines; weekends and late nights mean queues
Nearby: Olive Young Hongdae Town and AK& Hongdae are both within walking distance for shopping before or after · the Yeonnam-dong stretch of Gyeongui Line Forest Park is a good spot to walk off the excitement afterward.
