Why are Daiso cosmetics selling so well in Korea?
On Clien's main community board, someone said they were surprised while reading Daiso's online-mall annual report: the top five best-selling new products of the year were all cosmetics. They knew about the buzz around Daiso's supplements but had no idea beauty had grown this big. The post got more than thirty replies.
What the replies said:
-
One view: Daiso is now Olive Young's biggest rival.
-
Someone said their spouse now goes to Daiso more than Olive Young, and says Daiso wins on value for products you use generously, like sunscreen.
-
A 5,000-won men's lotion turned out better than expected, one person said; another noted a near-identical product sells online in a slightly bigger size for noticeably more.
-
Others explained that big cosmetics companies and smaller brands make separate lines just for Daiso.
-
People liked being able to use products freely instead of rationing them, and one noticed that the best spot by the checkout is the beauty corner.
-
Some compared it with Korea's ultra-cheap road-shop cosmetics boom of about twenty years ago, and joked that since beauty arrived, a Daiso trip costs a lot more than it used to.
The mood was mostly positive, with value for money named as the main reason.
Desk note: According to a Bizhankook report (May 2026), Daiso's beauty sales grew about 70% in 2025 year on year, and its beauty range went from about 60 brands and 500 items at the end of 2024 to about 170 brands and 1,900 items by April 2026. Prices sit within six fixed tiers from 500 to 5,000 won. When you compare with other channels, check the volume as well as the price tag.
Have you bought cosmetics at Daiso? Anything you repurchase?
